A tiny blessing: Toronto Maternity Photographer

Posted July 23rd, 2010 in Maternity by Gina Ayanna

I didn’t realize how much I missed maternity photography until this session.  Every year when summer rolls around, the family session rush begins.  It is always nice to have a moment to stop and share the sheer joy and excitement with a mother to be.  There is something about the pending arrival of a new baby that brings a sense of wonder and possibility to everyone around.  It is always an honour to capture these fleeting moments for a family to treasure for years to come.  I can’t wait to meet you in a few weeks when you make your arrival into the world.

Can a woman be pregnant and sexy?

Demi Moore posed nude and pregnant for the cover of Vanity Fair in 1991, at the time this cover sparked controversy for Vanity Fair and for Demi.  It was widely discussed on television, radio and in the news that Annie’s Leibovitz’ shot portrayed Demi as a sex symbol and at that time it was unfathomable for a woman to be pregnant and still be sexy.

Thankfully, that cover resonated with women everywhere as they saw the beauty and strength in the image and today women everywhere are able to celebrate the pregnant form and see its beauty, strength and sensuality.

Personally, I love the form of a pregnant woman and find that when a woman is able to professionally capture this moment, it allows you to see yourself in a different light.  Something happens in every woman that I photograph when they look back at the photographs of their pregnancy.  Many times my clients did not see the sheer beauty in the pregnant body but they are able to appreciate it and see its beauty at a time when their body does not feel beautiful.

Today practically every celebrity gets offered a magazine cover when she is pregnant and it is seen as a way to celebrate a natural part of life.

So, what are your thoughts? How do you feel about celebrities posing pregnant on the cover of magazines?  Do you feel it could be empowering to pose pregnant and nude?

Looking forward to reading your thoughts as always.

Celebrating life and love,
