I knew I wouldn’t be home to watch Jessica Simpson on Oprah but I had no stress because my PVR was set or so I thought….but my episode of Oprah was nowhere to be found. So I had to resort to watching clips… really bad clips I must add on youtube. I did not catch the entire episode but I got just enough to fire me up.
It is time for us women to say “f” the media and their definition of beauty and start really delving into ourselves to find what true beauty really is. I have been a believer in this for some time now and I am quite happy that celebrities are starting to spread the word.
I am not a size 4, in fact I am a size 10 but I am happy with who I am, and yet there are women out there who instead of lifting each other up, fall victim to the media and end up tearing other women down. Just this week at work(I also work at the bank on a part-time basis) I had a woman say to me that I really needed to do something about my stomach. Her comments really bothered me…yes I had a C-section and am not that happy with my tummy and I am working on it… but that is not what bothered me the most. What really bugged me is that some women feel so justified almost as if they are helping in giving you their opinion on what your body should look like.
I want you to know that you don’t have to be a size 2 to be beautiful. Beautiful has nothing to do with the size of your waist or arms or thighs and everything to do with the size of your heart. I am going on a mission to photograph everyday women, real women….women with warm hearts and who are all sizes to help you see that beauty is not one dimensional. Beauty is you.. that mom that gives and gives so the kids are fed and the house is clean. Beauty is you the mom that works really hard from 9-5 so that your family has opportunities you only dreamed of as a child.
Beauty is an experience, nothing else. It is not a fixed pattern or an arrangement of features. It is something felt, a glow or a communicated sense of fineness. What ails us is that our sense of beauty is so bruised and blunted, we miss all the best.
